Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is a federal legal process that helps people or businesses address debts they cannot pay. Depending on the type of case, it may allow them to eliminate eligible debts or repay creditors through a court-supervised plan. Filing generally pauses many collection efforts, but not every debt can be discharged.

Family - Divorce and/or Custody

Divorce in Michigan is no-fault; meaning neither party must prove fault in order to be granted the legal separation. Fault can be considered by the judge in terms of alimony and diving property, but this varies. Every case is unique; when the divorce includes minor children, there is typically the addition of custody and parenting time. This type of order impacts where the child lives, how often they see each parent, and who makes the important decisions. Each case will be navigated appropriately according to the factors involved.

Personal Injury

Personal injury law in Michigan concerns compensation for harm caused by another person’s wrongful conduct, such as negligence. Claims can arise from car crashes, falls, defective products, or medical malpractice. The injured person generally must show that the defendant’s conduct caused the injury. Michigan generally gives a person three years to file an injury lawsuit, but some claims have different deadlines. Car-crash cases also have special no-fault rules: a claim against another driver for pain and suffering generally requires death, serious impairment of body function, or permanent serious disfigurement.

Business or Corporate

Business or corporate law covers how businesses are formed, operated, and governed. It includes contracts, ownership, compliance, financing, and resolving disputes between businesses or their owners.

Real Estate

Real estate law governs the ownership, use, purchase, sale, and leasing of property. It also covers issues such as mortgages, title, boundaries, zoning, and landlord–tenant disputes.

Wills, Estates, and Probate

Wills, estates, and probate law covers planning for what happens to a person’s property after death and administering their estate. It includes drafting wills, appointing representatives, paying debts, and distributing assets to beneficiaries.

Elder Law

Elder Law in Michigan helps older adults and their families plan for the future and navigate legal issues that arise with age. It can include estate planning, long-term care and Medicaid planning, guardianships, and protecting a loved one’s wishes and well-being.
